Get Ready for 8th Annual Chalkfest at The Island! 🎨✨
Prepare for a day of vibrant creativity as Chalkfest at The Island returns for another year of artistic fun! This exciting event invites skilled chalk artists to turn sidewalks into colorful masterpieces, creating a unique outdoor gallery for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a fun way to spend the day, Chalkfest has something for everyone.
Event Details:
- Date: Sunday, October 6th with a Rain Date of Monday, October 7th
- Time: 8 am to 6 pm, check-in begins at 8 am
- Location: The Island in Pigeon Forge
- Artist Registration Fee: Free!
Join the Competition!
Teams of two are invited to compete, while groups of three or more must register under the team category. Artists will work from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with judging starting at 4:00 pm. A check-in tent will be located in front of the fountain, and chalk will be provided.
Working Space: Artists will complete their designs on assigned concrete squares. A minimum of a 4′ x 4′ area must be covered to qualify for judging, but you’re welcome to create larger pieces.
Theme: This year’s theme is “Visions of Space”, celebrating everything celestial, from galaxies to space exploration and sci-fi!
Judging Criteria: Creativity, composition, adherence to theme, and use of the medium.
Supplies: One box of soft pastel chalk will be provided, with the option to bring your own. We’ll also have extra black and white chalk for large areas. Artists are encouraged to bring items like cardboard for knee protection, erasers, brushes, and painter’s tape.
Awards: Presented at 6:00 pm at the Ole Smoky Moonshine stage, including Best in Show, People’s Choice, and category winners (Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Adult).
Important Guidelines:
- Family-friendly art only
- No copyrighted characters or logos
- No permanent fixatives, but sugar water is allowed
- Stay within assigned perimeters to ensure space for foot traffic
